He graduated from the Moscow Art Theatre School in 1968 (course of A. Massal'sky) and was admitted to the troupe of the Moscow Sovremennik Theatre, managed by Oleg Efremov.
Played: Alyoshka (“The Lower Depths“), Albert ( “From evening until noon“), Misha (“Eternally Alive“), Balalajkin and Prudentov (“Balalajkin and Co“), Jester ( “Twelfth Night“), Sukhon'ky (“And in the morning they woke up“), Bobchinsky („The Government Inspector”), Tollya and Piero („Apartment of Columbine”), Gaev („The Cherry Orchard”), Misha („We are going, going, going?”), Retrograde devil („Karamazov's and Hell”), Alfred Doolittle („Pygmalion”), etc.
In 2004, accepted into the troupe of the Moscow Art Theatre. Played Cleante in “Tartuffe“. Playing in performances: “The Last Victim”(Dergachev), „The Wood”( Arkadii Schastlivtsev), «№ 13»( Richard Willy). In the Moscow Theatre managed by O. Tabakov played the title role in the performance “Crazy Jourdain. Moleriana”, which in 1987 opened the theatre. He played Chichikov in the performance “Number hotel in the city NN” (directed by V. Fokin, the State Prize of Russia for 1994; Prize of the International Theatre Festival «Contact-95», Torun, Poland) in the Center named after V. Meyerhold; Shuyskiy in “Boris Godunov“ directed by D. Donnellan, Arnolfo in the performance of the Checkhov Moscow Art Theatre “The lesson for wives“ (directed by M. Efremov), Ludovico Nota in the “Naked Dress“ (directed by R. Kozak, Moscow Theatre named after A. Pushkin), Bartolo in the “Figaro.The events of one day “( directed by K. Serebrennikov, Evgeny Mironov Theatre Company).
Acted in such films as: “Burnt by the Sun“ (directed by Mikhalkov), “A few days in the life of I. I. Oblomov“ (directed by Mikhalkov), “Funny People“ (directed by M. Schweitzer), “Little Tragedies ”(directed by M. Schweitzer), „The Government Inspector” (directed by S. Gazarov), „The Fifth Corner ” (directed by S. Gazarov), „Gragdanin nachalnik” (directed by N. Dostal), „The Mystery of Edwin Drude” ( directed by A. Orlov), „Dombey and Son” (directed by G. Volchek, Fokin), „Number hotel in the city NN” (directed by V. Fokin), „Russian Game” (directed by P. Chuhray), etc. In 1987, together with O. Tabakov staged “Crazy Jourdain. Moleriana“ in the Moscow Theatre managed by O. Tabakov. Ibid staged „Prischuchil” (revised in 1991 with E. Mironov, M. Zudina, A. Zolotnitsky, A. Mohov).
For students of the Moscow Art Theatre School (course of O. Tabakov) in 1989 staged the diploma performance “Proposals“ by A. Chekhov and V. Sollogub, which was adopted in the repertory of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre. As assistant director he worked with N. Mikhalkov on the ballet „Mechanical Piano” (Teatro Argentina, Rome, 1987) and A. Konchalovsky on the performance “The Seagull”(Theatre de l' Odeon — Theatre of Europe, Paris, 1988-1989). Since 1976, in the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts and 1985 in the Moscow Art Theatre School he has taught on the courses managed by Oleg Tabakov, forming the core of the Moscow Theatre troupe led by Oleg Tabakov. Among the students: E. Majorova, I. Nefedov, A. Seliverstov, M. Zudina, S. Gazarov, S. Belyaev, A. Marin, V. Mashkov, E. Mironov, A. Mokhov, A. Serebryakov, A. Smolyakov, N. Timokhina, M. Khomjakov.
From 1989 to 2001 directed the acting class in the Moscow Art Theatre School, preparing three issues. Among the students: A. Khovansky (Moscow Sovremennik Theatre), D. Sukhanov, S. Klimov, E.
