It's the year 1968. The young high school teacher Knut Pedersen arrives in Larvik dreaming of a bourgeois existence, but also with an inner discord and unrest which pretty soon push him towards the seductive Marxist-Leninist party AKP. Pedersen is a gentle, intellectual man, with doubts about the revolutionary ideas. Only when he meets the young, newly arrived medical doctor Nina Skåtøy, this absurd and utopian idea seems to become conceivable. Soon they are lovers. Their intense relationship lasts until a fatal annual meeting in AKP, which, for security reasons, is held in Sweden. During the meeting, she performs self criticism, and says farewell to “comrade Eivind,” as he is called for security reasons. Pedersen, however, stays by her side, as friend, admirer and knight through AKP's fall, through strikes and self proletarization, and ever more defeats for the revolution.
