Born November 14, 1966 in Leningrad.
In 1988, he graduated from the Art History Department of the Zhdanov Leningrad State University. Completed the postgraduate course of LGITMiK. Ph.D. in History of Arts. In 1997-1999 was lecturer at the University of Metz in France.
Since 2000, was columnist for the Kommersant publishing house. Author for magazines: Mitin Magazine, Cinema Art, Session, Theater Life, Petersburg Theater Magazine, Art.
Member of the editorial board of the Seans Publishing House. Director of the international programs of the Kinotavr festivals.
One of the authors of the "Great Russian Encyclopedia" and the cinema dictionary "The Recent History of Russian Cinema 1986–2000"
