To commemorate the fifth century of the passing of Hieronymus Bosch, the Prado Museum commissioned this documentary about his undisputable masterpiece “The garden of Earthly Delights” from director José Luis López-Linares. The resulting work seeks to match the painting, in an attempt to uncover some of the multiple mysteries hidden in the canvas through a broad range of viewpoints, from an entertaining and educational perspective, while avoiding jargon and pedantry to reach all audiences. Both those who are familiar with “The Garden of Earthly Delights” and those who aren’t will be amazed by the amount of unsettling secrets that the film reveals.
A mystery within a mystery, the painting “The Garden of Delights” is Hieronymus Bosch most famed and intriguing. Through unique images granted by an exclusive access to the Prado Museum, – like being witness to the process of X-raying the painting, and its restoration- , the film explores and seeks to unveil all the unanswered questions about the painter himself, the painting, and explain the inspiration that it has had in writers painters, musicians from all over the world.
